In June 2025, Ukraine's National Baseball Team embarked on a goodwill tour to the United States, visiting New York City and Florida to promote cultural exchange, raise awareness about the war in Ukraine, and support the rebuilding of sports infrastructure back home


New York City: Eastern European Day at Coney Island

On June 1, the Brooklyn Cyclones hosted the third annual Eastern European Day at Maimonides Park in Coney Island. The event featured an exhibition game between Team Ukraine and the Eastern European All-Stars,

  • The All‑Stars roster was made up of players from at least 10–12 Eastern European countries, with former MLB managers Bobby Valentine (leading Ukraine) and John McLaren (leading the All‑Stars) at the helm
  • The day also included cultural performances, food vendors, and educational exhibits, with Ukrainian refugees attending for free.

Florida: A Respite in St. Pete

Following their time in New York, the team traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida, for a series of games and community engagements. On June 3, they played an exhibition match against the Bay Area Pro amateur team at Walter Fuller Park, winning 8–2. The visit provided players with a much-needed break from the ongoing conflict, offering them a chance to bond and experience American baseball culture. Coach Oleg Boyko expressed that the experience was invaluable, stating, “This has no price.”

The team also participated in local events, including throwing the first pitch at a Tampa Bay Rays game, further strengthening ties with the community.

  

Public Reception

The team's visit was met with widespread support from the American public. Attendees at the games expressed admiration for the Ukrainian players' resilience and determination. One spectator noted, “If you had fun, you won. Hopefully, they'll have some fun. Hopefully, they'll raise some money and keep the awareness awake.” 


 Rays Game Visit: A Moment of Normalcy

On June 5, 2025, the Ukrainian team attended a Tampa Bay Rays game at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The team's visit was part of a broader humanitarian tour organized by Dimitry Sagalchik and Kevin Smith, aiming to provide the players with a respite from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine . During the game, the Ukrainian players were invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, a gesture symbolizing solidarity and support from the American baseball community 


 The Rays' organization and the local community warmly welcomed the Ukrainian players, recognizing the significance of their visit. The ceremonial first pitch was met with applause, symbolizing a shared commitment to peace and unity through the universal language of baseball.
